Monica's Big Decision

Getting a breast augmentation can be pretty intimiding and most people don't even know where to start. Currently I am exactly one month away from surgery and I'm full of all sorts of emotions and questions. There are so many different things to consider before your surgery day and all of those things can be determined through research. Research will be your best friend through this whole process.

The best place to start off is picking your surgeon. This may sound silly in a way, but search through all the breast augmentation hash tags you can think of through Instagram. Odds are, if the surgeon is confident in their work, they're posting it for everyone admire on social media. After looking at thousands of before and after photos, you'll find yourself gravitating towards a specific shape and size which will come into play later. But one thing to keep in mind is that a lot of before and after photos are pretty soon after surgery. From my understanding, it takes a full year for the implants to "settle" and about 3 months for them to look a little more normal. The photos you find may look a little high set and like the skin is pulled tight because they are so fresh. Other ways can be as easy as just hopping on google and searching for the best. Don't forget, it's okay to travel if you find a surgeon you like that isn't close to home. make sure you have all our important medical questions written down to ask your doctor at your consultation. This is something you want well and done right! A lot of doctors offer free Plastic surgery consultations so don't be afraid to go to a few different offices before you make a decision.

A huge decision you will have to make, which I am struggling with, is picking a size. In your head, you probably have a general idea of what you want to look like when it's all said and done. Unfortunately, communicating that image to others, can be difficult. That is where the looking at before and after photos come into play. most photos will include the size of the implant in the caption. the most important thing is not the implant size, but looking at the size of the breasts in the "before" picture. Make sure, when figuring out what you want, you need to have a person with a similar stature to compare to. When going in for your consultation, the doctor will have little tear dropped shaped inserts to place in your bra to get a better visual of how that size implant will look on your frame. It can be pretty intimidating, but keep in mind, it's just to give you a general idea.

Most women say go little bigger than what you want and most don't ever regret that decision. A lot of people will try to sway you to get what they think will look best, but at the end of it all, you are the one that has to live with it. Make sure you only do what makes you feel your best. I am still very much intimidated with making such a huge choice but I know Dr. Franco will make sure i have exactly what i want. trust in your doctor is key and making sure they understand your vision.Getting a breast augmentation is full of choices but it all pays off in the end.
