Two iconic photos taken by Houston’s own Violeta Alvarez were selected to be published in Smithsonian Rock and Roll: Live and Unseen by Bill Bentley.  The book looks at rock music in a new way. In 2015, the Smithsonian called on rock and roll fans worldwide to collect photos and stories of their favorite moments in music; Violeta’s photo of Houston legends ZZ Top and heavy rock pioneer Alice Cooper made the cut.

Violeta is opening her vault with a special exhibition of Metal prints to be housed through December at Next Door Gallery.  Take advantage of a rare opportunity to own or gift a unique musical moment captured by Violeta's lens.  Photographed highlights include: Iron Maiden, Metallica, Linkin Park, Tom Petty, Alice Cooper, Cage the Elephant, The Black Keys and The Reverend Horton Heat.

About Violeta Alvarez:

As a teenager, Violeta Alvarez frequented Houston's legendary early 90's dive bar and music venue, Emo’s, which helped stage the “alternative” musical sounds of the decade. This place quickly became a “living room” for Violeta and her friends and she began capturing her adolescent life on film during a period of time that would never be duplicated in music history.

Ms. Alvarez attended the Pratt Institute of Design, studying Art History and Film and Photography then continued at Parsons, The New School of Design as a Photography major in New York City.   As a freelance photographer, Violeta Alvarez has been featured in publications such as New York Magazine, Rolling Stone, Spin Magazine, Entertainment Weekly, Alternative Press, MTV, and among others.
