Established in 2007 and headquartered in Dallas, Texas, New Look Laser College is the leading laser tattoo removal training course for individuals interested in starting their own laser tattoo removal business, building their skills and portfolio, or expanding their existing practice with laser tattoo removal. We’ve trained and certified numerous people from all backgrounds, including physicians, medical spa technicians, tattoo artists, and entrepreneurs.

Below we discuss the basics of tattoo removal training, what to look for in a training course, how tattoo removal works, and also cover Texas regulations for laser tattoo removal.

The Importance of Laser Tattoo Removal Training

When you purchase a laser tattoo removal device, regardless of which manufacturer you choose, there is usually a training component included. If training isn’t involved, it’s probably best to purchase your laser elsewhere. Training is essential for any laser business as it sets the foundation for success. Not only does training teach you and your staff how to operate a laser, but it also equips you with the necessary skills and knowledge needed to safely and effectively treat your clients.

Laser tattoo removal training usually involves an educational segment as well as real hands-on practice. For more than a decade, New Look Laser College has continuously refined our course curriculum to help our students confidently perform laser tattoo removal. New Look Laser College’s course curriculum covers a variety of topics from laser protocols, how to treat every patient’s skin type, clinic operations, laser physics, laser safety, how to assess a tattoo, procedure pricing, effective marketing practices, and business operations, and much more.

Following the academic segment of our course, New Look Laser College delivers extensive hands-on training practice on a diverse pool of tattoos and patient skin types. From colorful tattoos, dark skin types, large tattoos, and light skin types - we provide a wide variety of tattoo and patient combinations to equip you with every treatment scenario you might come across.

How Laser Tattoo Removal Works

Before you even think about training, it’s crucial to understand how laser tattoo removal works. Not only will you need to explain this process to your patients, but knowing how the procedure works will also give you a better understanding of the science behind laser tattoo removal.

Essentially, a laser helps speed up the natural fading process that your body carries out throughout a lifetime. A laser sends light energy into the skin and targets the pigment found in tattoo ink particles. Depending on a laser’s wavelengths, the ink particles will either reflect or absorb the laser’s energy. Upon absorption, the tattoo ink particles will shatter and break into tiny fragmented particles that your body is then able to quickly and more easily remove.

In our 2-day course, New Look Laser College will go in-depth about how laser tattoo removal works and the key role wavelengths play in successfully removing an unwanted tattoo.

State Regulations

Lastly, before you even think about getting trained or opening up a laser tattoo removal business, you need to research your state’s regulations. Like with most aesthetic services, each state has a set list of rules and regulations regarding who can perform a procedure, who can delegate a certain procedure, who can own a laser device, etc.

While some states have no regulations for laser tattoo, most have a few requirements, and few have stringent regulations that favor licensed medical professionals. For example, in Texas, anyone can perform laser tattoo removal so long as a physician medical director is associated with the business (including tattoo shops). Furthermore, the medical director can be off-site, and the person performing treatments doesn’t necessarily need to have training. However, training is still strongly suggested for any practitioner because it makes it much more feasible and palatable for the medical director to delegate the procedure.

Other highly regulated states require a physician medical director to be on-site, and the person operating the laser to be a licensed mid-level practitioner. Regulations vary by state, so be sure to research your state’s specific regulations before proceeding with training or purchasing a laser.
